In San Francisco, every house has its own personality, but it is not an architectural question, but what each one manages to achieve with topiary art.

A San Francisco each house has its own personality, but it is not an architectural question, but what each one manages to achieve with l'art topiary.

There are geometric shapes of all kinds, buildings literally swallowed up by nature, trees worked in an artisanal way that become one with the houses. This is how, walking through the streets of San Francisco, it will not be difficult to come across one of these little trees created with topiary art: urban and domestic plants which are transformed into open-air sculptures.

Intrigued by the beauty of this nature aided in the transformation by man, the photographer Alan W. George, after moving to the city, decided to immortalize it. In his photos there are all the essence of topiary art, that is, those techniques used to shape trees and shrubs with a decorative and ornamental function, clearly respecting the environment.

Used since ancient times, this art was popular in Roman gardens, but also in the Renaissance ones that still continue to fascinate. Green light for obelisks, vases, animals and objects, while in San Francisco the contrast of natural forms is preferred.
