The red carpet of poppies was created to welcome visitors to the event which takes place every year at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London. The carpet of poppies covers an area of about 2000 square meters.
Australian designer Philip Johnson has decided to exhibit i handmade poppies from all over the world. The initiative was born in 2013 with the idea of commemorating the fallen of the first and second world wars thanks to an unusual display of crimson flowers. In 2014, the commemoration took place with ceramic poppies that had filled the moat of the Tower of London. In 2015, 250 handmade poppies in Australia became a moving tribute to the soldiers who disappeared during the wars.
This year here is the idea of exhibiting the crochet poppies on the occasion of the Chelsea Flower Show, the most important event dedicated to the world of flowers in England. The festival has been taking place for more than 100 years now, with a first edition dating back to 1913 and with an ever-increasing number of visitors who reach London for the event even coming from other continents.
