No danger (for now) but a spectacle that nature, as always, offers us for free: a volcanic eruption is underway in Iceland, the work of the volcanic system Krysuvik, about 40 kilometers from the capital Reykjavik, but fortunately in an uninhabited area.

In recent weeks, a series of mild to moderate earthquakes had been recorded, as reported by the Iceland Monitor, but on 24 February a 5,7 magnitude earthquake he had been warned on the outskirts of the capital. It is likely that these movements triggered the eruption, which in any case did not register any injuries or damage, in an uninhabited area.

The eruptions of the Krysuvik range are of an effusive type (like those of our Etna) in which lava flows constantly from the ground, and the video, released by the Icelandic Meteorological Office, shows a spectacle (free) of those that only nature can to offer.

The office also reports that the Krysuvik volcanic system has been inactive in the last 900 years, while the last eruption on the Reykjanes peninsula dates back to almost 800 years ago, in 1240. The event is therefore particularly relevant from the point of view " purely scientific ".

All that remains is to admire nature.
