He left his prison to enjoy the freedom and why not take a swim in the sea. It is the bitter story of an elephant who, before the incredulous eyes of the swimmers, dived into the waters of Santa Maria del Cedro, in Calabria.

An unusual swimmer, a bit bulky, but certainly happy to have regained his freedom. The elephant had escaped from the circus Amedeo Orfei, at the opera a Santa Maria del Cedro, in the province of Cosenza.

It is not known how he managed to do it. The fact is that the pachyderm found himself wandering alone on the streets of the Calabrian town. And it didn't take long before he found the sea.

Leaving behind an unenviable life of training, imprisonment and travel, the elephant did not miss the chance to run away. So, without knowing it, he found himself admiring a great blue expanse, with clear and fresh waters, while the world (or at least a representation of it made by bathers) watched him.

The best place to find relief from the summer heat. Et voila, step by step, leg by leg, entered the water. Many flocked to see it, filming the scene, some moved, some amused.

Unfortunately, the story doesn't have a happy ending. The poor elephant was brought back to his cell, after having breathed only a few moments of brackish air and freedom.

A slave on the run for a few minutes from his prison, in the name of the interests and "fun" of a few.

SECURITY UPDATE TRAINING

The buffalo hunt arrives on time and even the elephant ends up in the sights. Not being able to deny, however, that an elephant was in the sea, the misinformation would be here that the pachyderm would not have escaped from the Orfei circus, but would have been accompanied by the guardians.

And who says it? A certain Andrea Marco Rivolta who is promptly taken up on Facebook by the Facebook page of the circus Orfei (coincidentally) and who defends the circus performers who in animal welfare and to demonstrate how much they love the elephant led him to take a quiet dip at sea.

Rivolta takes up our article and says he contacted the circus itself which denied that the animal escaped (but we would be surprised otherwise), but coincidentally he is there to give this version, we have instead collected other testimonies of people on the spot who swear that the guards were there, yes, but they arrived later. So who should we believe? At the circus? In Revolt? To our eyewitnesses? And the point that we did not like at all, is not the misquoting, but how much to assume that it is normal that an escaped elephant or not, takes a bath in the sea among the bathers who scream, laugh, film etc etc.

We are talking about an animal that after a hard training suffers further stress. And if the animal were (rightly) annoyed, what would have happened? A shot from a rifle and away? Does it seem normal to you to bathe in the sea where a pachyderm has just wet next to it? Not for us, for the safety and hygiene of the bathers. So are we really convinced that the point is escape or not? And if he had been accompanied there, what would it change? Yet another attempt to transform animals into freak phenomena.
