Paris. If we ask you what its symbolic monument is, the answer is more than obvious: the Torre Eiffel, a mammoth structure built for the Universal Exhibition of 1889, designed to last only 20 years, is still standing, also thanks to the renovations carried out over the years. And in an era in which attention to the environment is becoming more and more widespread, not even the grandiose monument symbol of Francia, remained out of it. The close-up of the Eiffel Tower in fact it will soon be restructured in key green with lots of solar panels.

The first floor of the tower, revived 30 years ago, welcomes millions of visitors every year, even if by now its pavilions and public areas dating back to the 80s have become obsolete and inadequate when compared with the expectations of visitors and with technical standards in force. Hence the need to review it.

La retraining of the plan in particular includes the reconstruction of the reception room and the conference room transforming it into one of the most exclusive places in Paris, but also the reconstruction of the visitor services pavilion, especially restaurants and boutiques, the design of a fun and educational tour of the museum, and finally the creation of two spectacular attractions that will try in some way to limit the gap between the monument and the square in front of it with a floor and balustrades completely made of glass.

More in detail, the green renovation of the Eiffel Tower will have two objectives aimed at a greater sustainable development of the monument: accessibility and reduction of the environmental impact.

Accessibility. It means giving everyone the opportunity to visit it. Even today, much of the first floor of the Tower is inaccessible to the disabled. The renovation will allow all visitors, regardless of their disability, to take advantage of all the space and all the services and contents offered.

Environmental impact. New construction standards, solar thermal, Aeolian, hydroelectric, rainwater collection, LED lighting, as well as several techniques that will help improve the energy performance of the Tower.

According to the project, the plan of the Eiffel Tower will be conceived as an urban place, with its streets, its buildings, its centrality despite the 57m high, able to offer a view from above of Paris but at the same time not too far from the ground, considering the height of the Tower.

La renovation was curated by the architectural firm Moatti-Rivière, in consortium with the company Bateg. In all, 25 million euros will be needed, financed entirely by SETE (Société d'Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel). And it will take only 18 months of work between 2012 and 2013, to see the monument, over 100 years old, reborn to a new life, with a beautiful green dress.
