To teach the people of the most disadvantaged areas of the world how to purify water and put an end to the spread of diseases caused by contamination of blue gold.
This special book consists of a filter paper high-tech and was created thanks to a collaboration between McGill University and the University of Virginia. Each page contains two filters which are capable of providing clean water for 30 days. The whole book can guarantee safe drinking water for 4 years.
Each page is covered with nanoparticles that actively act to fight diseases such as cholera, typhus and E.coli. After passing through the filters, the water obtained is comparable to that of the tap. The presence of bacteria is reduced by 99,99%. Using the book would be very simple. It would be enough to simply place the filter above a container for collecting drinking water.
The project for the creation of The Drinkable Book received the support of the non-profit organization Waterislife and was made with the help of the creative agency DDB New York. This new tool is expected to revolutionize water purification methods also due to very low production and sales costs.
The Drinkable Book is presented as a useful tool to prevent overdoing 3 million deaths which occur every year due to contaminated water and also as an interesting educational resource. The filters are accompanied by the necessary instructions to spread good habits regarding the choice of safe water, with indications in both English and Swahili.
