The cold does not make you sick, let the children play outdoors even in winter

Children who play outdoors even in winter (well covered of course) are healthier, let them stay outside even in the cold

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

In our country, the (erroneous) belief that cold makes us sick is still very strong. In reality, exactly the opposite is true: children who play outdoors even in winter (well covered of course) are healthier. Even in times of Covid, indeed ... now even more!

We repeat once again: it is not the cold that makes you sick but viruses and bacteria that circulate and proliferate especially in closed and very busy environments (whoever has a child in the nursery knows what that means!). This is where thanks to sneezing, coughing and the exchange of body fluids such as saliva, germs and viruses can easily pass from one person to another.

It goes without saying that being outdoors and playing outside even in winter is a good idea precisely because in these conditions there is less chance of coming into contact with pathogens as the air circulation makes their concentration very low.

But not only that, playing outside helps to get sick less also thanks to vitamin D production that our body is able to synthesize with the help of the sun's rays. Outdoor play in cold temperatures, according to a Pennsylvania Department of Health document boosts the immune system of children and adults.

This is why children who play outdoors even in winter tend to (and statistically) get sick less. Obviously, it is useless to specify that it is important to keep your distance and comply with all anti Covid regulations.

Appropriate clothing in winter

Of course, playing in the cold involves a certain type of clothing. Cold doesn't hurt as long as you are sufficiently covered according to the external temperature to be faced.

It is important to pay attention to the most sensitive areas of the body such as the ears, head and throat. Inevitable winter accessories are therefore hair, scarf and possibly earmuffs. Also useful is a jacket that is warm, windproof and waterproof so as to prevent moisture from entering the body.

The key word, once again, is common sense. Children would go onion clothes in such a way that they can always be covered in the right way according to the activity they are doing and the real temperature to which they are exposed.

Other benefits of playing outside even in winter

But playing outside even in low temperatures has several benefits and not just for health. The winter landscape, preferably with snow, offers children new stimuli compared to the spring or summer one: fallen leaves, dark grass, ice or indeed snow.

The little ones have the opportunity to discover and play with new natural elements and exercise their bodies in different ways.

The advantage of being exposed to the sun and producing vitamin D (which even children are often deficient in) helps them not only stay fit physically but also in their mood. It also increases serotonin in the brain.

But beware of smog, playing outdoors in winter is good as long as you are not in a particularly polluted area. In this case it is better to take the time to go and play elsewhere, in a beautiful park or better still in the mountains.
