The case of the beauty farm for girls in Nardò teaches us that we still have to pass on the beauty and the essential to our children

The news of the opening of a wellness center dedicated only to girls and boys has inflamed the world of social media. But how attentive are we really to the self-esteem of our little ones?

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

A little girl lying on a bed, fluffy towel over her shoulders and a crown on her head. It doesn't matter how, the important thing is that we talk about it: the Apulian entrepreneur who opened a beauty farm dedicated only to children in Nardò seems to have said a little to herself.

An idea that, to be honest, rides the already existing wave of "Beauty & Spa Parties", an all-pink universe of improbable little parties for girls, sometimes very small ones, in which animators improvise expert make-up artists and, among eye shadows, blushes and lipsticks, infants give rise to scented frenzies of all kinds.

Now, however, it seems that the beauty farm of Nardò advertised on the net is not liked by most.

Details that make the difference, beauty baby, the first beauty salon for the little ones, says the slogan, complete with photos of little girls undergoing relaxing massages or with their faces covered in beauty masks.

The controversy was raised primarily by Fernando Blasi, aka Nandu Popu, leading voice of Sud Sound System:

All babies are beautiful, regardless. If anything, they can have parents if they are unable to accept themselves and live as human beings. The discomfort of not feeling beautiful and therefore of not feeling accepted has various meanings, among these the most devastating is that of feeling so inferior as to have to beg for someone else's opinion. Beauty is to be sought above all in the humanity we are imbued with. Ergo, parents should keep every child's carefree purity and not make him age too prematurely, she says among other things.

How to blame him. But how paradoxical does this matter have? In short, the controversy is all there, but this Apulian beauty farm actually reflects what society seems to require more and more: a widespread superficiality in the name of the aesthetic aspect, which satisfies the affectations, the coaxing by way of little women, the vices to share with the little girls' friends.

And above all the not knowing how to say no of parents when it is too much. Maybe that's the point: something that has always been, now becomes a business and a source of income.

"Shall we put on some makeup?" how many of us, girls of the past, have said it for fun, perhaps aiming to wear mom's heel and imitate her even for a few minutes. Nothing wrong with that, because then she, she got off those heels, that thing remained within the four walls and, indeed, we received a good lecture if we dared further.

Now it's all a "let it go". The controversy unleashed on social media is there and makes sense: but don't you think that the Beauty Farm for children is just the last piece of a slightly more complex picture? Doesn't it seem to you that just the way we leave our children alone with mobile phones and tablets, anywhere and everywhere, is one of the many "adult things" we have invested in them and of which they have not the slightest awareness ?

It's complicated, sure, and it's hard work. But let us no longer miss the opportunity to make our children understand where the beauty and the essential really lie.
