A new project was born to carry out sustainable bricks. The brick of the future will be ecological, economical and black in color, recycled from waste. The new brick is called Black Brick and promises to become the protagonist of the new generation of construction.
The brick was designed by a group of MIT students and is visually characterized by the black color. Its realization allows you to recycle and reuse waste paper and cardboard with the addition of lime and clay. It allows to reuse the enormous quantities of ash produced by paper mills and waste that often ends up in landfills.
Black Brick differs from traditional bricks because of the combination of components it does not require cooking. In fact, once assembled, the brick dries and hardens at room temperature. Hence, this phase takes place without the release of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.
The idea for its realization was born after detecting the high levels of pollution in India caused by the brick production sector. To tackle the problem, MIT students thought of creating an inexpensive and ecological brick suitable for building low-cost buildings for families with minimal income. The new brick is therefore part of a larger project concerning environmental and social sustainability.
