It's called The Breath and it's a special fabric that promises to absorb pollutants from the air. It was invented by the startup Anemotech which recently also signed an agreement with the ENGIE company for the diffusion of this innovative anti-pollution technology. Let's find out how it works.

The Breath uses the natural movement of air to purify it. The fabric not only absorbs but breaks down polluting molecules. It is a technology with low environmental impact suitable for both indoor and outdoor environments, applicable in paintings, billboards and many other solutions both for domestic use and for offices and public buildings.

How it works

The air passes through the meshes of the fabric, where it is also found the nano molecules capture and break up pollutants. The air is thus returned to the circulation cleaner and more breathable, to the benefit of our health.

The fabric of The Breath it is made up of three layers, the two external ones in water-repellent material with bactericidal, anti-mold and anti-odor properties and, an intermediate one in absorbent fiber with nanomolecules. In particular, the first layer exerts an absorbing action, attracting the polluting molecules inside its fibrous structure and preventing their release; the second literally cleans the air, breaking down the bacterial load and the third is an anti-odor action.

What substances does it absorb

According to its creators, its success is precisely this: 10 square meters of fabric absorb the annual quantity of NO2 (nitrogen dioxide) emitted by 1.450 diesel cars; VOC (volatile organic compounds) from 3.625 petrol cars and NO2 (nitrogen dioxide) generated by 15 boilers.

“Fine dust, particulate matter, chlorofluorocarbons, benzene, formaldehyde (furniture, carpet and synthetic tiles), aromatic hydrocarbons (cigarette smoke, rooms with printers), nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, polluting ozone are removed,” explains Anemotech.

Where can you use it

The Breath is suitable for both closed environments to reduce pollutants deriving from heating, allergens, chemicals and fine dust. For example, it can be a support for printing signage or informative and educational material in public places such as hospitals, offices and schools. But in a private home it can be transformed into a piece of furniture.

Outdoors, it can be used in posters but also as a construction application, replacing traditional panel and scaffolding materials.
