The crowdfunding campaign begins in Bergamo for the creation of a wood in the Parco della Trucca in memory of the victims of Covid-19.
Life as opposed to death: in the ruthless game of Covid-19, the essential thing remains to do everything possible so that everything passes quickly, as well as being attached to the memory of what it was. Yes, because almost a year has passed since it all began, the memory of those who have suffered must never fade.
This is why the crowdfunding campaign for the creation of a 'wooded area in memory of the victims of Covid-19. 750 new trees so as not to forget who has died.
We are in Bergamo, the city that most of all suffered the first wave. The city of the column of military trucks carrying the coffins, of the sirens unfolding at every minute of the day and night. Here, the municipal administration has decided to adopt the project conceived by the Associazione Comuni Virtuosi and create a lively place a stone's throw from the hospital that most of all was involved in the pandemic emergency, highly symbolic and participatory, for contesting an image of hope and of the future to an immense tragedy.
"The very slow explosion of a seed", as Bruno Munari defined thetree, to remember the victims of something that suddenly exploded in our hands, leaving permanent marks on us.
The intervention - designed by architect Paola Cavallini and agronomist Roberto Reggiani e inaugurated with a laying ceremony on 18 March, in conjunction with the first national day in memory of the victims of Covid - provides the total planting of about 750 trees and shrubs. Inside the tree-lined islands, walkways and seats will be created, designed as places of meditation but also as a future space for events and initiatives to enhance the forest.

“We want it to be a point of reference for families and for the world of school but also for all citizens who want to grow the forest: an oasis of community - said the mayor Giorgio Gori. What for others are only television images, for us are still open wounds: Bergamo was the city most affected by the first wave of a pandemic that took us by surprise, taking away 6 thousand people throughout the province. But I think that even the most acute pain can contain within itself the seed of a rebirth. The positive manifestations that have united people, such as this forest, are an example “.
Another objective is to identify one or more associations in the area that want to contribute to the management of this place inhabited by trees conceived to give shape to a dimension of socialization.
Because the expansion of the sharing of the project is a very powerful reaction to the isolation imposed by the pandemic.
