Once again art leads us to reflect on the contradictions and paradoxes of modern society. The works of the American artist Brock Davis have precisely this objective. They consist of a series of humorous photographs, sculptures and images.
Once again themodern art leads us to reflect on the contradictions and on paradoxes of modern society. The works of the American artist Brock Davis have just that goal. They consist of a series of photographs, sculptures and images full of bitter irony.
The works Brock Davis, who lives in Minneapolis, were hosted in Dismaland, the dismal and satirical amusement park created by Banksy in the UK, from 21 August to 27 September. Now Banksy has decided to close the doors of Dismaland to dismantle it and donate the materials from the amusement park to a refugee camp.
To give life to his works Brock Davis uses unusual materials, abandoned objects and that seem to come directly from a waste bin. The overall result of the works is equally dissonant with respect to the purity that perhaps some of us would like to associate with art.
His works strike us and cannot leave us indifferent. Between materials used we find pieces of plastic, gauze for bandages, acrylic colors, coffee cups typical of take-away, corrugated cardboard, plastic bottles, chewing gum, food waste and even hair.
The artist's landscape photographs, on the other hand, often see an object at its center that is placed in a unusual context, like an old turnstile, which has become the protagonist of a photographic journey. The true turnstile used for the photos was exhibited in Dismaland next to the images that portrayed him.
During his career Brock Davis has won numerous awards and has participated in international exhibitions in various countries of the world. Among the most prestigious awards received by the artist we find the Lion of Cannes. In Dismaland, his works have been exhibited alongside the creations of artists from Spain, Germany, Finland, the United States and the United Kingdom.
