From the cultivation of mushrooms you can get a ecological fabric suitable for creating Abit. The Dutch designer experienced it Aniela Hoitink.
Recently in Amsterdam he gave birth to a 100% biodegradable dress, environmentally friendly and skin friendly, using only mushrooms grown on small discs. By joining the discs together he obtained a surprising fabric that was suitable for the creation of a real dress.
The growth of the mushrooms (mycelia) took a week and a half and there are 350 small discs used to obtain the first dress. The dress does not require the classic cutting or sewing operations and there are no waste materials. The dress it is compostable when it is no longer used as it is made up only of natural and biodegradable materials.
To create perfect discs on which to grow mushrooms, the designer had to combine technology and microbiology. The mushrooms were provided to her byUtrecht University. They multiply very quickly and in a few days give life to an easily usable fabric. This type of fabric does not contain toxic substances.
Until now, similar materials had been experimented with by the food industry for the creation of biodegradable packaging but never in high fashion. The designer has developed a technique that allows the fabric to still be soft and flexible even when dry. The composition of the dress is three-dimensional and very scenic.
aniela worked for 12 years in various fashion houses before founding her own brand and now she is really happy to be able to offer sustainable innovation in this sector. The resulting material is comfortable to wear and has already been appreciated by many people. We are therefore curious to find out if the fashion world will welcome and exploit this type of evolution in the creation of fabrics.
