Her name is Julie Willson and there Down syndrome he knows it well. Julie indeed had a sister, Dina, with this genetic malformation and not even after his death has he stopped sharing his time with families who have a person affected by the syndrome at home.

Julie Willson is a New Jersey photographer and mom of three and in a series of his shots wanted to do nothing but celebrate the beauty of children with Down syndrome. An idea that she came to mind after her sister Dina died in 2011, at the age of 36, of heart failure.

“I'm one of those people who was lucky growing up with a sister with Down's Syndrome. Dina was the best thing that could have happened to our family. Julie says. She taught us what unconditional love was and how to deal with life without worrying. She lit up any room she walked into and people would be captured by her sweet but stubborn personality of hers. When I think about my childhood, my mind automatically goes to the memories I have with her. Beautiful memories with her. My mom and Dina were best friends and they were completely inseparable and she and my dad had a bond that couldn't be broken. People who knew our family and knew Dina always stressed how she doubled her life expectancy and how she lived well because my family was great with her. My parents were saints. They gave everything so that Dina had a full and happy life ”.

And so Julie called a collected 11 children with Down syndrome and captured their spirit in a series of photos. Their families had responded to the photographer's call for children up to age 5, and some even traveled up to three or four hours to participate.

“I hope my photos are shared and people see how lucky these families have been. After doing this photo shoot I was told by one of the mothers that the miscarriage rate of people who discover they could have a child with Down's Syndrome is 92%. This percentage is much higher than I would have imagined. That said, if I can decrease the miscarriage rate by sharing my photos, I feel like I've achieved something. I want to change people's mentality. I want people to see these children and know that if they have a child with Down Syndrome, even though they may be afraid, they will be lucky ".
