UPDATE:

Gaia is safe. The Minister of the Environment Costa, through a post on Facebook, has made it known that the TAR of Trento has suspended the order for the killing of JJ4. A story that had passed from the woods to the courtrooms, in a ping pong of references but now the possibility of killing this mother is moving away.

The story of JJ4

You will remember JJ4, the bear accused of attacking two people on Mount Peller last June 22nd. A very strange story. The story of a 59-year-old man and his 28-year-old son did not fully convince. Their version was that they were patrolling the area, when at some point they would come face to face with a bear that would attack them. Only to discover that the two were at 1500 meters and that the bear in question was a mother ready to understandably defend her cubs. An order for the killing had been issued on her, which then had recourse to the animal welfare associations and even the minister Sergio Costa, who yesterday said about Gaia:

“Another bear, thought to be Gaia, has been identified and put on a radio collar. She is now free and the results of the genetic tests are awaited. She has 3 puppies and therefore the capture or, even worse, the killing would also condemn the little ones. So seeing that her fault is only that of having defended her children against a possible threat, as any mother would do, let's leave her free ”.

The Papillon bear has no faults. For days he clawed into concrete to escape. It now has a radio collar and is therefore monitorable. Let him live his life, and another bear, thought to be Gaia, has been identified and put on a radio collar. She is now free and the results of the genetic tests are awaited. The killing order is in fact suspended until today July 30. “If the DNA test confirms that the bear captured is JJ4, it will be the end for her and for her orphaned cubs. She would be identified and killed by order of the president of the Province of Trento. Who made a mistake is the human guest who, falling into panic, has triggered an unpredictable chain reaction ”, comments the president of Oipa, Massimo Comparotto.

Orsa JJ4-Gaia is safe (at least for now). Accepted the appeal to the TAR of the associations, Costa writes to the Advocacy?
