The artist who crocheted life-sized skeleton and organs

The rather bizarre creation is due to a real crochet artist, Shanell Papp, who has numerous other works to his credit, from masks to pools of blood, but his skeleton is certainly one that has awakened more stir.

In 2005 Papp crocheted an entire corpse, creating bones and organs out of wool to fill the full-size skeleton. Nothing is missing: lungs, heart, liver, small and large intestines, all made with different colors and as similar as possible to the original organs. The bones of the skeleton are also very detailed, perfectly proportioned.

The woman who lives and works in Alberta, Canada, is not just any “knitter” but she learned to use self-taught crochet when she was only 9 years old.

Shannell created the skeleton for a university research project in tissue, anatomy and art, called BAWDY.

"I made the skeleton, to explore my body while I was an art student at the University of Lethbridge", explains. “Before doing this work I had a keen interest in medical history, Frankenstein, Enlightenment thought, the Victorian period, the birth of industry (textile production), crime investigations, mortuary practices and museums…. I did this work to explore my interest in the human body ”.

Certainly not the usual scarf or the centerpiece ...
