The Antitrust has opened a proceeding against Leroy Merlin, a well-known French company specializing in bricolage and do-it-yourself, construction, gardening and decorations. The company ended up under the AGCM (Competition and Market Authority) lens due to a series of violations of the Consumer Code, reported by various buyers and by the National Consumers Union.

These violations, which occurred in recent months, specifically include: the delayed or non-delivery of the products ordered online; omitted or misleading information on actual delivery times, delays and problems relating to the correct execution of orders; the promotion through the website of the new telephone sales service, which mentions “fast delivery (4 days)”; the omitted or inadequate after-sales assistance of consumers.

As if that were not enough, the company would have suggested to the consumer to activate the return procedure asking for the relative motivation (action contrary to the Consumer Code).

"The Antitrust has so far fully confirmed our theses, starting the procedure" - declared the president of the National Consumers Union Massimiliano Dona - "Those who sell online must deliver the goods within the promised times and not ensure delivery in four days if, due to the Covid emergency, they are then unable to comply with them. Furthermore, he must also know how to manage user complaints, provide adequate after-sales assistance, answer the phone, give targeted and specific email responses, not coincidentally the same for everyone, and, above all, reimburse customers who have not received goods" .

Now many consumers hope that clarity will be made as soon as possible on the conduct of the Leroy Merlin company and that justice will be done for consumers who have suffered hardships, even more so in a period of crisis like the one we are experiencing.
