Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

The mosquitoes are about to return, so let's get ready in time to prevent these insects from making our summer unpleasant. There are some natural tricks to keep mosquitoes away or keep them from entering your home. Here's what they are.

When the days get longer and the climate is mild, many of us spend more time outdoors even in the garden or terrace if we have it available. However, mosquitoes that, attracted by the heat and odor of the human body, inevitably arrive, often spoil the tranquility.

How can we remove them with natural remedies?

The possibilities to experiment are different. But first of all let's dispel a myth: that of turning off the light to prevent mosquitoes from entering the house, the problem is not so much the light as, as already mentioned, the smell and heat of the human body, which is what really is attracts mosquitoes.

Beware of stagnant water

The first useful advice is undoubtedly to make sure that there is no stagnation of water on the terrace or on the balcony, a risk that occurs especially when we water too much. In fact, it is precisely in stagnant water that mosquitoes lay their eggs and reproduce.

 Mosquito nets or fan

Placing mosquito nets on the windows is a great way to at least prevent mosquitoes from entering the house disturbing our nights. A good alternative for those who cannot install them, however, is to use a fan, whose air flow helps to keep insects away.

The right clothing

When we are away from home we wear light but opaque clothes, such as linen. Avoid dark clothes that attract insects more, preferring instead light colors, such as white.

Avoid perfumes and deodorants with floral or sweet scents

Mosquitoes are attracted by the smell of our body but also by floral or sweet scents, which is why it is good to avoid using them in the period in which they are most present. The same goes for shampoo and shower gel.

Unpleasant odors for mosquitoes

You can try to repel mosquitoes with some scents they do not like to spread in the air using candles, pour leeks, essential oil diffusers or other.

These include:

  • lemon
  • eucalyptus
  • sage
  • cinnamon
  • bergamot
  • sandal
  • cedar

Coconut oil

Coconut oil smells pleasant to most of us, but mosquitoes don't think the same way. We can then try to spread some on the arms, legs and other areas of the body not covered by clothes.

This oil, among other things, can also be put on the tips of the hair with the double advantage of warding off mosquitoes and taking care of our hair.

Anti-mosquito plants

On the balcony, terrace or in the garden, we prefer plants with an unpleasant odor to mosquitoes. Among these there are some unsuspected ones like tomatoes others more known like lemongrass.

Here are the following:

  • Tomatoes
  • Citronella
  • Melissa
  • Bergamot
  • Spiced bay leaf
  • Catnip
  • Lavender
  • Pelargonium
  • Peppermint
  • Kratom
  • White Walnut
