Electricity from the rain: Reyhan Jamalova, an Indian girl of just 15, has found a way to produce it, in a renewable and clean way. And that could be exploited in the poorest and wettest lands in the world. The start-up Rainergy was born from her idea.

Rainwater, Reyhan argues, is one of the few renewable energy sources that has not yet been exploited to its full potential. And with little considered advantages: solar and wind energy, currently on the market and expanding, require extensive production, investment and maintenance. Rainergy, on the other hand, appears to leverage a simple design, consisting of only four key parts.

The device, in particular, has an upper part where there is a bucket that collects rainwater and pours it into a tank. In turn this is connected to a generator through which water is run to generate electricity, which is then stored in one battery so you can use it even when it's not raining.

“During the rainfall billions of gallons (1 gallon about 4 liters, Ed) of rainwater are poured onto the ground all over the world - the start-up website reads - which is enormous potential if used in the right way. To solve this problem, Rainergy offers a generator designed to collect energy from rain, capable of producing an amount of electricity equal to 3626 kWh in one year, almost sufficient (92%) for the needs of a house ".

For families who are cut off from the mains electricity grid in particularly rainy countries like Malaysia, India, Indonesia and the Philippines, Rainergy could be a invaluable source of light and energy, with production of carbon dioxide, among other things, lower than other renewable sources.

Reyhan and her closest associate spent four months calculating the logistics of the device before building it with the help of their physics tutor. Rainergy has already been awarded numerous awards and pre-orders are already available. The company is currently looking for investors who make the business dream possible: bring light in the lives of thousands of people around the world.

So easy, clean and cheap and no one before a 15 year old girl had thought of it?
