    A group of teenagers, four or five boys probably minors, broke into the fence that protected them in the middle of the night turtle eggs laid on the Tuscan beach of Rocchette, irreparably compromising the whole nest.





    The incident was reported by the Sea Turtle Recovery Center and the TartAmare Sea Turtle Training Center. According to the testimony of a night watchman of the plant, the young would have climbed over the fence, removed the anti-predation grate and dug into the sand, bringing to light some eggs and damaging the nest.

    One egg would have broken, others were scattered on the sand, still others were placed in a bucket.

    Following the screams of the guardian, the boys fled, but by now the damage was done. About 15 eggs are irreparably damaged and, according to tartAmare, the whole nest - consisting of 81 eggs - failure to finish.

    It might seem like a stunt, but in reality it is a very serious fact. There sea ​​turtle it is in fact an endangered species and is included among the protected species.

    The Caretta caretta is indeed threatened by fishing, which causes their accidental capture, from seaside tourism in the nesting sites, by the degradation of the habitat and by the presence of man who disturbs the reproductive sites.

    “We remind you that manipulating or removing sea turtle eggs from a nest is a criminal offense, therefore punishable by criminal penalties.
    We also remind you that if a minor is the perpetrator of this crime, the penalty is borne by the parent.
