Tea is undoubtedly one of the most loved and consumed drinks in the world. It is obtained from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. Once harvested, these leaves wither and oxidize, the oxidation process determines the more or less dark color of the leaves and this defines the different types of tea that exist. To stop the oxidation process, before the leaves get too dark, just heat the leaves.

As everyone will know, tea also contains caffeine which is the natural stimulant most commonly found in tea, coffee and cocoa plants. Caffeine stimulates the brain and central nervous system and is usually taken to combat fatigue and stay awake. However, we must not exceed in consumption, it can in fact lead to some negative effects such as insomnia, migraine, anxiety, increased heart rate.

Coffee VS green tea: differences, benefits and contraindications of the two most popular drinks in the world

Today we see what are the 4 types of tea that contain high amounts of caffeine.

Black tea contains a very high amount of caffeine: between 64 and 112 milligrams (mg) per 8 fluid ounce (fl oz) serving. Black tea contains no calories, fat, protein, fiber, vitamins or sugar. Like other types of tea, it contains flavonoids, phytochemicals, flavonols, theanine and antioxidant properties that are beneficial to health.

Black tea has several benefits, including greater mental alertness, thanks to the presence of caffeine; reduces the risk of heart attack; it helps to increase blood pressure in people with low blood pressure and reduces the chance of ovarian cancer.

Oolong tea

Oolong tea contains between 29 and 53 mg of caffeine per 8 fl oz serving. This particular type of tea contains the antioxidant EGCG, an excellent ally for losing weight. Oolong tea also helps lower cholesterol, thereby lowering the risk of heart disease.

Green tea

In green tea we find an amount of caffeine that varies between 24 and 39 mg per 8 fl oz serving. Studies have revealed how green tea, probably thanks to polyphenols, has anti-carcinogenic properties for skin cancer and can help in the chemoprevention phase. Green tea is also useful for treating inflammatory conditions of the skin and to reduce the risk of deterioration of one's cognitive abilities.

White tea

White tea is among the 4 that contains the least amount of caffeine. The caffeine here ranges between 32 and 37 mg per 8 fl oz serving. It is a less elaborate type of tea which therefore retains antioxidants longer. It has many benefits including preserving heart health, reducing skin inflammation, facilitating weight loss and improving cognition.
