Produced in the laboratory and no-kill, ie not coming from slaughtered animals: the health authorities of Singapore have given the green light to the sale of “nuggets” made from “cultivated” chicken meat. This is the first time this has happened in the world. There carne no-kill, will be launched in a restaurant in the short term, but the price is not yet known. Will we soon be able to say goodbye to animal husbandry, steroids, antibiotics and slaughter?

The process was developed by the Californian start-up Eat Just, after two years of work before obtaining the green light from a commission of seven people who evaluated all stages of the production process.

Already other variants of plant-based meat (such as BeyondMeat Inc and Impossible Foods), are increasingly present on supermarket shelves or in restaurants, but the so-called "clean" or "cultured" meat, which is created from muscle cells animals in the laboratory, is still in an early stage given the rather high production costs: the technique consists in taking stem cells from the fat or muscle of an animal in a culture medium that nourishes the cells, helping the growth of the tissue.

And this is how Eat Just's chicken nuggets were obtained, mixing precisely the meat obtained by growing the cells taken from an animal with proteins of vegetable origin.

The cost has not yet been disclosed, but it will certainly be lower than the over 300 thousand dollars of the first 'synthetic' hamburger born in 2013.
