Sustainable City Lights: the smart street lamp powered by sun and wind

Philips Design presented a concept of smart street lights powered by renewable energy and equipped with LEDs, which emit a brighter light when there are people around and which instead maintain a softer and lighter light when streets and squares are deserted: a system for dosing energy and save it, avoiding any kind of waste.

Illuminate our cities withenergia produced every day, free of charge and without damage to the environment, since Sun and from wind. It seems a trivial idea, a kind of "discovery of hot water", but, evidently, it is not so much: if it were obvious, in fact, most of our city would already be equipped with entirely eco-sustainable public lighting systems, based on available, free, clean and renewable energy sources. Which, in the vast majority of cases, does not happen.

Precisely on the theme oflighting of our cities a concept devised by Philips Design and recently featured in the specialized magazine Yanko Design: It is Sustainable City Lights, environmentally friendly public lighting system that is powered by sunlight and wind. of “intelligent” streetlights equipped with LED, which emit a more intense light when there are people around and which instead maintain a softer and "lighter" light when streets and squares are deserted: a system to dose energy and save it, avoiding any kind of waste.

I Sustainable City Lights are rather captivating and original design creations: their shape and structure are inspired by flowers, with tall tulip stems and with corollas that open and close, "capturing" thesolar power ed wind which will then be returned, at night, in the form of light. The system is designed so that any excess energy accumulated is not dispersed, but is stored in a special grid to be used for other uses, always within the urban public context.

A beautiful eco-sustainable idea, which would be appropriate to deepen, refine and test, perhaps through the construction of prototypes and with rigorous ones experimentation programs. Also why find some eco-friendly and low-cost solutions for the lighting of our cities would be an undoubted advantage for everyone: it would be really time to think about it.
