Staples with an air fryer: the basic recipe

Here's how to proceed and what ingredients you need to prepare them.
- 1 egg
- 250 ml of fresh milk
- 80 ml of seed oil
- 550 g of 0 flour
- 40 g of potato starch
- 10 g fresh brewer's yeast
- 60 g of sugar (we advise you to replace the granulated one indicated in the recipe with whole cane sugar)
- 1 sachet of vanillin or vanilla extract
- 1 orange (peel only)
- 1 lemon (peel only)
Pour the flour and potato starch on a pastry board. Then dissolve the yeast in the warm milk, pouring it all into the center of the flours. Add egg, vanilla, oil, citrus peels and knead until you get a soft dough.
The dough must rise in a warm place for about 2 hours. Then use it to form the staples, following the indications of Air Friggy.
The staples must rise for another 45 minutes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, in a warm place. Air Friggy recommends cutting out squares of parchment paper larger than the donuts before they finish the second leavening. So you can store them in the fryer basket without having to detach them, thus avoiding deflating them.
At this point it is possible to place them in the basket, no more than 5 at a time, and cook them at 160 ° for 8 minutes.
Staples with air fryer: tasty variations
The staples are often enriched with creams, yogurt, honey and other fillings. They can also be prepared in a vegan version, without adding eggs, milk and butter. Here are the variants tastier.
The Youtube channel of "Amica Vegetariana" offers us the recipe for vegan staples, prepared with soy yogurt, sugar, soy milk, seed oil, orange and lemon peel, 00 flour, baking powder.
You have to mix yogurt, milk, sugar and oil in a bowl, add the grated orange and lemon peels, mix also the sifted flour and yeast, then knead until you get a soft dough. The leavening processes and finally the cooking follow. Amica Vegetariana fries the staples but you can very well opt for cooking with an air fryer. In this case, 8 minutes at 160 ° should be enough.
