Soon you will be able to rent furniture from Ikea instead of buying it

Very soon at Ikea the furniture will be for rent, clearly not all but the essential ones for those who are an off-site student or a person who for various reasons often changes home and city.

The sharing economy also comes to Ikea, word of the ceo Jesper Brodin who, according to what is reported by the Swiss site 20 Minuten, has a good news in store for a specific range of customers who need, for example, chairs and desks only for a limited time .

Brodin on NZZ am Sonntag does not comment on the starting date of the offer, but ensures that it is working to meet the needs of its customers. Those who live with a suitcase in hand, if they are not lucky enough to find a rented house already furnished, often find themselves buying furniture that at the time of the new move, they do not know where to place.

What furniture will be for rent? Even on this there is still the aura of mystery, but we are certainly talking about desks, sofas and seats and not about an equipped wall. But it remains to be seen if the offer will be truly advantageous and for whom. What will be the rental price?

Like any novelty, it also brings with it both favorable and opposing. According to Tilman Slembeck, professor of economics at the University of Applied Sciences in Zurich, the project will be a winner:

“I am surprised that this offer hasn't been launched for some time. In the United States, furniture rental has been an established practice for many years. As consumers are increasingly itinerant, they seek greater flexibility ”.

Christian Fichter, professor of economic psychology at the University of Applied Sciences of Kalaidos, in Switzerland, thinks differently:

“It may happen that people don't really feel comfortable with furniture that doesn't belong to them. For fear of damaging them and having to pay extra during the return, they could experience the experience with difficulty ".

While waiting to understand what the return arrangements will be, CEO Brodin is confident: "There will be 100 pieces of furniture returned a week, and the trend is increasing."
