Soap nuts, you use

The most common use of soap nuts is the one that sees them as protagonists of the laundry cleaning instead of common laundry detergent. For this purpose, 5 to 8 half shells of chopped walnuts are needed, placed inside a cotton bag to be inserted in the washing machine drum:

Very dirty laundry: 8 night

Normal laundry: 6 night

Lightly soiled laundry: 4 night

They work from 30 degrees but better to use them from 40 degrees up. You can use them 2/3 times before throwing them in the organic waste.

You can also experience their effectiveness by realizing a decoction of soap nuts to be used as a dishwasher, floor cleaner or in place of shampoo.

Preparation:

Place the 10 soap nuts in a tied cotton bag to keep them from spilling. Put in a pot covered with the equivalent of 8 glasses of water, bringing it to a boil and leaving it on the stove for about half an hour. During this time the water will become thicker and take on a brownish color. A few drops of essential oil can be added to the solution thus obtained to perfume or to increase the washing power. You can use it later to wash the body, hair, as a laundry detergent, as a hand cleaner, to wash fruit and vegetables (in this case do not add essential oils) or as a pesticide for animals.

Soap Nuts: Do They Really Work?

On this point there is no absolute certainty and the theories (as well as the practical experiences of the people who tried them) are different.

Among the various opinions in this regard we mention for example that of Tessa Gelisio, presenter and environmental journalist who, after carrying out a personal experiment, was satisfied and ensured the efficiency of the walnuts and that of Fabrizio Zago, well-known chemist and author of the Biodictionary who is instead convinced of their absolute ineffectiveness and has shown that the results obtained with this product are the same as washing with simple hot water.

As for the concrete experience of the people who wash with these nuts, we can say that everyone has his own and that there are those who are happy maybe adding some essential oils to increase its effectiveness or to perfume the laundry and chi, on the other hand, did not notice great cleaning power and for this he has turned to other natural solutions.

Where to find soap nuts?

Soap nuts are easily found in organic shops and online shops dedicated to the well-being and natural care of the home. The price of a package of these nuts may seem high, but it must be considered that only a few nuts are used at a time and that potentially the cleaning power of a nut can be exploited twice. A 1 kg package of walnuts can yield up to 200 washes.

Fortunately, if we are not happy with this natural solution we can choose others, not necessarily, therefore, we have to buy chemical detergents to have the perfect laundry.
