    Churchill, located in Hudson Bay, Canada, has always been known as the capital of polar bears but now the winter snow has disappeared from here. The photos taken in November 2016 are snowless and it feels like summer.

    Churchill, a locality in the Hudson Bay, in Canada, it has always been known as the capital of polar bears but now the winter snow has disappeared from here. The photos taken in November 2016 are snowless and it feels like summer.





    What is happening? The climate is changing, the glaciers are melting and the global warming it gives no respite. Each year in October and November hundreds of polar bears gathered here to hunt seals in the ice and snow for the first time since late summer, but now that has changed.

    The photographer Lars Ostenfeld he first visited these places 12 years ago and remembers very well the freezing cold, snow, ice and temperatures of -20 degrees below zero. This year he returned to Canada to shoot a documentary and here's the unwelcome surprise: in mid-November the snow was gone.

    Temperatures in October 2016 were above the unprecedented average and this is how theabsence of snow. In just 12 years, the climate has changed considerably and now the situation is putting the survival of polar bears at increasing risk.

    Over the past 30 years, the Hudson Bay polar bear population has dropped by 20%. In these conditions the bears cannot have what they need and spend too much time away from the snow.

    At this rate according to experts polar bears will go extinct between the middle and the end of this century.

    Once again we need to reflect on our responsibilities with regard to climate change and global warming, with particular reference to human activities that lead to rising temperatures. If the polar bears disappear it will really be our fault.
