Some of us only see spiders as scary home invaders, but arachnids can actually be truly fascinating and beautiful creatures. Just see the peacock spider to notice it. Do you remember it? Well, there's news: two more new species have been discovered in Australia.
They are called Maratus the skeleton from Maratus tossed and have been creatively named Skeletorus (because it resembles a skeleton) and Sparklemuffin (sparkling muffin). Vibrant colors and mesmerizing mating dances, these two new species first appear in the study by Jürgen Otto and David Hill published in Peckhmania.
Maratus tossed - It's kind of a peacock spider so far only seen in the Wondul Range National Park in southern Queensland. Males of the species engage in courtship, during which they reveal unique and iridescent blue scales “interrupted by three bold transverse bands of orange-red.
Maratus skeleton - It looks quite similar to other known spiders of this species, but resembles a skeleton with its black and white spots, a mating never seen before.
