From next March it will be possible to receive the Single Universal Allowance for families with children up to 21 years of age. The application can be presented to INPS starting from January. Attention for divorced couples: if the second parent does not intervene to complete the application, the first parent, or the applicant, will receive only 50% of the allowance

Single Check: Separate couples may only receive 50% if both do not complete the application. Pasquale Tridico, INPS president, said this at a hearing yesterday before the Chamber's Social Affairs Commission, according to whom the single allowance, a resource that could help 11 million children, could be halved in the case of separated or divorced couples. To have it full, obtaining an amount between 50 and 175 euros per month according to the ISEE, "both parents must complete the application".

The reason is obvious: once connected to the system to submit their application, the requesting parent will have to wait for a second step to formalize it. Because the other parent will have to receive a text message and decide whether to enter his data "to receive 50% of the amount or to leave the entire amount to the ex partner", explains Tridico in the hearing. But "if the second parent does not intervene to complete the application, the first parent, or the applicant, will only receive 50% of the check".

The measure remains that from March, with total resources of a total of 18,2 billion - will allow many families to receive the necessary support in times of crisis.

In the same hearing in the Chamber's Social Affairs Committee, Tridico took stock of the measure:

It has a deductible amount from 175 euros per month for ISEE equal to or less than 15 thousand euros and gradually decreases to 50 euros for ISEE equal to or greater than 40 thousand euros. Even without presenting the ISEE, families will receive 50 euros per child - recalled Tridico, listing the different increases (from each child following the second to disabled children) thanks to which a family with up to 5 minors will have an important monthly amount.

The single allowance, which does not contribute to the formation of the overall income, is compatible both with any other cash measures in favor of the children, and with the Citizenship Income (the share for the children is deducted from the theoretical portion of the single allowance already provided for by the citizenship income). Payments will take place monthly starting from April 2022.

How to apply

Applications for the universal single allowance can be submitted electronically from March 2022 to theINPS o at the patronage institutes, according to the methods indicated by the INPS on the institutional website within 20 days of the publication of the decree. The request must be submitted starting from January 1st of each year and refers to the period between March of the year in which the application is submitted and February of the following year. If the application is submitted by February 28, payment will be made in March, otherwise it will be postponed by one month.
