Shadow, the story of the skeletal lion of a Nigerian zoo in Kaduna, which unfortunately risks not making it.

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

It was skin and bones the lion spotted by a visitor at the Gamji Gate Zoo in Kaduna, Nigeria. Exhausted, hungry, undernourished. The man, seeing him in that state, was shocked and contacted an NGO specializing in animal protection, Wild @ life, which immediately intervened.

Wild @ life, in collaboration with the Nigerian Association of Zoological Parks, is trying to persuade local authorities to investigate, while a veterinarian has been sent to the zoo to take care of the lion.

Sadly, Shadow isn't the only Kaduna Zoo animal in this state. There are also baboons, hyenas, crocodiles, ostriches and other dying specimens. The problem started after the zoo was devastated by a flood. The situation was aggravated by the lack of funding due to the pandemic in progress, which heavily affected the economy of the Nigerian zoo, which was unable to keep the animals in decent conditions:

“The problem started after a flood devastated the zoo and hit the paddocks. Ever since Covid struck around the world - Zoos in Nigeria are all struggling to feed animals kept in captivity for lack of funding and support, food prices have ballooned and without paying visitors the zoo has gone hell . "

We hope that the animals of the Kaduna Zoo will recover and that they will be transferred to a protected area as soon as possible.
