Christmas and New Year's dinners and lunches, with the related exchanges of gifts, risk not being managed in the best possible way as regards separate waste collection. It would be helpful for a family member to take care of keeping everything under control. A differentiated collection carried out correctly facilitates recycling to prevent recoverable materials from ending up in landfills or incinerators.
Remember that food packaging is evolving from the point of view of materials. So check the symbols on the packaging carefully. Some packaging could go into paper, plastic or wet, instead of undifferentiated. Each municipality may have specific rules for separate collection: do not forget to inquire at the municipal offices dedicated to waste services.

Paper and cardboard

Glass

Plastic
As Corepla explains, even during the holidays, don't forget that the separate collection of plastic only concerns packaging, therefore bottles, jars, flasks, bags, envelopes, transparent films, disposable plates and glasses, trays. Toys, balls, glasses, pens, felt-tip pens, water bottles, tools and various utensils, when they are broken or no longer needed, should never be abandoned wherever they happen to be, but put in the unsorted waste bin.
The packs in Tetra pak (polylaminate) are usually thrown away with plastic or paper, depending on the decisions of your municipality.
Aluminum and steel
Tinfoil, or better aluminum foil: you can throw it in the separate collection of aluminum, after eliminating any food residues that may be present, which you will add to the wet. In the aluminum you can throw the soda cans. You cannot throw in the aluminum cans that bear symbols of harmfulness of the product they contained. As for thesteel, usually food packages such as canned tuna, meat and legumes I'm on my own in this material. So you can throw them in the separate collection after cleaning them.
