Seasonal fruit and vegetables, what do we bring to the table in April? Leaving the winter behind, we welcome this beautiful spring season with open arms which with its warm warmth finally brings the sprouting of the seeds planted in our small garden on the balcony.

And with the spring the time has also come to do some good feasting of fresh fruits and vegetables, typical of this season, refreshing nutrients and suitable for preparing our body for the hottest temperatures and the our skin to sun exposure.




So here is a list of what is best and most natural this season offers us:

Vegetables

Asparagus

In first place in the list of Shopping in April we find this vegetable, very rich in fiber, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and potassium. Abundant in its content of Vitamins A, B6 and C theasparagus and instead very low in fat. With his antioxidant properties is the ideal food for detoxify from toxins accumulated during the cold winter days. When you buy it to realize that it is fresh try to break it, if it bends obviously it is not, otherwise you can opt for a nice walk in the fields and collect wild asparagus.

Beets

This root with a particular red color is, even if you would not think it is very sweet and rich in mineral salts. Though contraindicated for diabetics, beet is one purifying plant e tonic suitable to favor the digestion. Excellent in cases of constipation, from the juice obtained from the root a precious remedy is obtained for those with high blood pressure and for those suffering from severe menstrual pain.

Chicory

Typical of the poor cuisine, especially the wild one, with a particularly bitter taste, chicory is a plant that contains a lot of vitamins A and C as well as calcium, phosphorus, iron and carbohydrates. With his purifying properties chicory stimulates the appetite, radjusting the intestinal functions, liver and kidneys.

Crunchy and tasty, April is the best time to go consume the first beans of the season. But even if it is a prodigious ally against anemia, as this green legume contains a high amount of iron, be careful because in reality the broad bean could become a dangerous enemy, for those who suffer from the much feared disease called favism.

Fruit

Strawberries

Tasty and with an intense red we will begin to find some very sweet strawberries especially at the end of April. Very rich in vitamins and in particular in Vitamin C, the strawberry although it falls into the category of fruit is actually a false fruit, in fact, the real fruits are the so-called achenes, that is the yellow seeds that can be seen on its surface. Kiwi
