Clarisse Merle studies architecture and fashion but cares about the environment. So she made special bricks using old clothes

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

Her name is Clarisse Merle, she studies architecture and fashion but cares about the environment. And this is how she came up with the idea of transforming old clothes into special sustainable bricks, capable of guaranteeing thermal and acoustic insulation. They are called FabBRICK and promise to make the fast fashion industry reflect.

The idea of Clarisse and her FABRICKs comes from a relatively recent concept, that of Slow Fashion, of slow fashion, which is opposed to Fast Fashion (fast fashion), which is based on the frequent renewal of clothes, practically at every change of season. Slow Fashion also aims to give priority to local fashion, creating a more lasting relationship between the brand and consumers, as well as promoting socio-environmental awareness. It is an attempt to raise awareness of the fashion industry.

How FabBRICK was born

While studying architecture, Clarisse Merlet, founder of FabBRICK, noticed that the construction sector was very polluting and equally energy-intensive. She therefore decided to find an alternative that would allow building in a different way and in particular with the use of waste such as bottles, plastic, cardboard boxes or glasses.
Subsequently, Clarisse realized that fabrics, which were also polluting - from production to disposal - were recycled very little, despite their interesting properties for construction. Just think that cotton is considered an excellent insulator.

So he had the idea of giving new life to discarded clothes by transforming them into an innovative raw material. On the basis of the characteristics of the recycled fabrics, he designed an ecological building material, both thermal and acoustic insulation: FabBRICK

the virtuous link between these two sectors of construction and textiles

This creation has been tested and offers the security of a conventional brick. The video below shows the process of transforming clothes into bricks.

As Clarisse explains, these special bricks are now more and more popular:

At FabBRICK all our creations are designed and handcrafted in our workshops in the heart of Paris. Since our inception at the end of 2018, we have already produced more than 40.000 bricks, equivalent to 12 tons of recycled fabrics. Three machines were developed to expand the project. The latest version has been duplicated five times in order to increase our production capacity. The future step, for us, is to industrialize the process in order to be able to recycle even more textile waste!
