Orsola Polyclinic in Bologna in sole 3 ore was born a new department for Covid-19 with 24 beds dedicated to those who tested positive for the swab but do not need "intensive care and clinical settings", as specified on the website of the Policlinico.
The department, located in pavilion 1 in place of Urology, which in the meantime has reduced the planned surgical activity "to free up resources to be allocated to intensive care and in this way to strengthen them both as regards the beds and as regards the personnel ", wants to lighten the load of activity that weighs on the infectious diseases department and on the hospitals of Piacenza" due to the numerous hospitalizations ". And it was born thanks to the collaboration of all the various health professionals who, in these days, are busy 24 hours a day to deal with the emergency, even staying asleep in the wards if necessary.
As for the intensive area in pavilion 23, "there are 11 intensive care places that have been dedicated exclusively to COVID-19 which will become 18 in the next few days."
Commissioner Sergio Venturi also specified, as stated on the website of the Emilia Romagna Region, that if needed, Covid-19 Hospitals will be created to be used until there is an emergency:
“We are rescheduling the activities of the hospitals with the possibility of creating Covid-19 Hospitals to be used until there is an emergency. We are strengthening our responsiveness wherever we have space available and where we have less accommodation capacity we are making agreements with accredited private individuals. "
He also added that in Emilia Romagna the number of beds and the professionalism of health workers are such as to guarantee suitable care for anyone in need:
“I want to reassure citizens once again: in Emilia-Romagna we have beds and professionalism capable of guaranteeing all the most suitable treatments. I can guarantee this after speaking with all the general managers of the health and hospital Trusts ".
