The one designed by the Salomon brand is a novelty that sports and recycling lovers will appreciate. It is a running shoe that, at the end of its life, is not thrown away but reused to make ski boots!

The new shoe was presented this week in Munich after being studied and developed for 18 months in order to give it the following characteristics: high performance and subsequent possibility of recycling.

It is a racing model that lends itself to a double use: first it is used to jog and then, once worn, it should not be thrown away but, being completely recyclable, it becomes useful for the brand to produce ski boots.

The innovative shoe is made entirely of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). At the end of its life on the road, it shredded and reused precisely to make the exterior of Solomon's alpine ski boots, giving it a new life on the slopes.

It's actually unclear what happens at the end of his second life, it doesn't seem to be fully "circular" yet, but the company says the process will allow Salomon to extend the lifecycle of the materials more than double, which is definitely a good starting point.

However, this company is committed to environmental sustainability and aims to reduce its impact over the next decade. The program includes commitments to reduce overall carbon emissions by 30% by 2030, as well as eliminating perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) in all of its products by 2023.

As Guillaume Meyzenq, vice president of Salomon Footwear said:

“By creating this shoe that can be recycled into a ski boot shell, we are demonstrating that it is possible to find alternative materials to create performance footwear. It's an exciting development that will help us bring more sustainable footwear solutions into the future "

And we can only wish for a more sustainable future in the world of shoes too!
