An intersection transformed into a work of street art on one of the busiest streets in rotterdam, in the Netherlands. An urban planning intervention that focuses on the safety of pedestrians.

The idea comes from the team of ‘The Creative Crosswalk’ that just a few weeks ago, inaugurated a completely original way to connect westblaak, one of the most chaotic arteries in the city center. Not just pedestrian crossings, but signs and letters that unite the neighborhoods.

Among the broken words “Stand Straight, Walk Proud”, a kind of 'go straight, walk proudly', a message for pedestrians in a city that is becoming increasingly human-friendly thanks to the contribution of Street Makers, a local planning agency, specializing in urban experiments.

For some time now, Rotterdam has suffered a turnaround, giving space to street art to renew the city. The result is now a work that connects the different intersections using signs that are often placed by the workers during the work in progress.

“Street Makers is not just a job for designers and architects but a lifestyle that wants to make one sustainable city, healthy, inclusive and successful ”says the creative Jorn Wemmenhove.

For this reason, over time, it has begun to limit the use of proven means in favor of sustainable viability. A lot is being invested in a city on a human scale that encourages walking or cycling.
