    Roasted pistachios withdrawn from the market due to the presence of aflatoxins

    Three batches of salted roasted pistachios have been withdrawn from the market by the Ministry of Health due to the presence of dangerous aflatoxins

    The Ministry of Health has ordered the withdrawal of salted roasted pistachios produced by the company Euro Company S.r.l.





    Il withdrawal from trade was decided following laboratory tests in which the presence of aflatoxin B1 and of total aflatoxins in quantity above the limits imposed by law.

    They have been withdrawn in all three production batches, all expiring on 31/12/2019. The withdrawal concerns the following production batches:

    • 500-gram packs of + performance branded pistachios, production batch 8338
    • 5 kg packs under the Euro Company brand, production lot 8346
    • packs of one kilo branded NOI & VOI, with lot number 8344.

    The Ministry recommends do not consume such products and invites to deliver them to the points of sale for replacement or refund.

    Le aflatoxins are mycotoxins produced by fungi of the Aspergillus species that they can contaminate nuts, flours, cereals and other preserved foods.

    Aflatoxins present chronic toxicityThese toxins accumulate in the liver, heart and muscles causing tissue damage. Furthermore, aflatoxins are teratogenic (cause death or malformation of the fetus) e carcinogenic.



    THEaflatossina B1, found in withdrawn pistachios, is the most dangerous. In many countries legal limits have been established for aflatoxins which cannot be exceeded.
