La tinea corporis, this is the medical name of the more commonly known as ringworm or tinea, it can affect humans and animals in a more or less heavy form. Initially it is characterized by the appearance of reddened and itchy areas that can develop all over the body and which, with the passage of time, increasingly take on the typical appearance of rashes from ringworm or have a ring shape.

CAUSES

Ringworm is caused by a group of dermatophyte fungi which feed on the keratin present on the skin, reproducing easily and consequently also expanding the infection. It is a disease very contagious and common, especially among children. It can be caught through contact with infected objects, clothing or towels but is also easily passed from person to person. This infection can ultimately be carried by an affected animal as well as passing from animal to animal (it is especially typical of cats).

Certainly having a weak immune system does not help to better defend oneself from ringworm as well as from other types of problems but also frequenting often gyms and sports centers or doing "hand-to-hand" sports exposes more to risk. Given that mushrooms love hot and humid environments, you are more easily attacked by ringworm if you suffer from frequent sweating and also having lesions of different kinds on the skin, nails or scalp makes you more vulnerable to this infection.

• Far check your pets periodically

Keep your body cool and dry

Avoid using other people's objects or clothing

Do not touch people who are already infected

SYMPTOMS

Ringworm manifests itself with gods very obvious skin symptoms. It is in particular about rashes and swellings that appear mainly on the arms and legs but also on the torso (generally in areas where there is less hair). It is characterized by the fact that the rashes are red and scaly but above all that they tend to form a series of rings. Scaly rashes, which can also become blisters, usually cause a lot of itching.

If the inflammation is more serious, very red and painful purulent areas may also appear. Very important, whatever the severity and spread of the infection, make sure not to touch other areas of the body to avoid further worsening the situation. As we have said, the fungus that causes ringworm is very contagious and can easily proliferate even where it was not there before.

Red, scaly patches

• Presence of one or more rings on the rashes

itch

• In some (more serious) cases, blistering and purulent red areas

The treatment of ringworm can vary depending on the intensity of the problem, in the lightest cases we proceed to a topical treatment based on antifungal ointments while when the situation is more serious it is necessary to resort to real drugs (obviously on medical prescription). If in doubt, a dermatological examination with sample collection and analysis is recommended.
