Repeat dressing: save the planet by wearing the same clothes several times (without being ashamed)

It's called Repeat dressing and it sends a clear message: wear the same item of clothing several times without feeling ashamed

That the clothing industry has a significant impact on the environment is certainly nothing new, that ours is the society of appearances, either. But a new movement is emerging that invites people to wear the same clothes over and over again, without shame.

Is called Repeat dressing and sends a clear message: everyone must do their part not to be complicit in the destruction of the planet. Let's face it: our wardrobes are full of clothes often bought at bargain prices. But behind those t-shirts, those clothes, there are stories of exploitation of manpower and the environment.

Yet all this takes a back seat in the age of social media, one in which there are those who are ashamed of appearing on Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok and so on, with the same item of clothing. So to get more followers, the watchword becomes: buy.

Some people believe that wearing the same jacket or shirt for two posts in a row can make them unpopular. And if you think we are talking about science fiction, you are very wrong. A recent study by environmental charity Hubbub revealed that one in six young people would not wear the same outfit once it was seen on social media.
The fashion industry has a huge impact on the environment: it is the second biggest polluter behind the oil industry. We would therefore need a turnaround: sustainable fabrics, recycling, support for green businesses and above all greater awareness.

"It is important that we all do our part by making small individual changes, so a movement has begun that invites people to do their part by wearing the same clothes over and over again without shame," says Hubbub boss Trewin Restorick.

It would also be a way to fight 'fast fashion', that is fast and often disposable fashion that looks to the latest trends always and in any case. “The three words you need to remember are reduce, reuse, recycle,” says Katie Williams of the UK's Youth Climate Coalition.

Buying second-hand clothes or wearing them multiple times means less impact. Do not throw then charities can help. “If we all create social change, a miracle will happen. We all need to be aware of what we are buying and who we are buying from ”.

What does the fashion industry say? Retailers admit more needs to be done, but say they are already working to reduce the impact of their products. Many fashion companies are changing to using recycled and sustainably sourced materials.
