What would our life be like if smartphones suddenly disappeared? Try for a moment to think of yourself focused on the mobile screen, as is probably happening right now as you read, and imagine that it vanishes into thin air. You would find yourself motionless in front of your slightly bent hand, in a pose that is absurd.

Perhaps the imagination is not enough to render the idea well but there photography certainly yes, especially if it comes from an artist like Eric Pickersgill, American photographer who gave birth to the curious and disturbing serie “Removed”.

The shots immortalize several people intent on using "invisible" smartphones, because they were deliberately removed from the set. And they show how that pose that we all take indiscriminately while holding our technological friend in hand, being literally absorbed by the screen, is surreal and absurd.

But the photographs also highlight ours total dedication to the smartphone, which makes us forget whoever is around us, from relatives to friends, on any occasion, making us unaware slaves.

Here are some of the most beautiful photographs of the series, which you can see in full on the Pickersgill website.
