He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

The bloodstain is one of the most feared. But don't worry and start with an assumption: the fresher the patch, the easier it will be to remove it. But how? Also in this case one or more grandmother's remedies can come to our rescue.

First, another essential rule is that of always use cold water, never hot, because the heat causes the protein contained in the blood to coagulate and the stain sticks even deeper into the fibers of the fabric.

Cold water

You can easily remove fresh blood stains from fabrics before putting them in the washing machine - rinse the garment as quickly as possible under cold running water. Then put some detergent on the stain and wash the garment in the washing machine as usual.

If you are out and about and there is no running water nearby, you can also treat the stain with mineral water. It is important that the stain does not have time to dry.

Salt

Dried blood stains are more difficult to remove than fresh ones: for stubborn blood stains it is often no longer enough to rinse them and then put them in the washing machine.

How to get rid of it then? Soak the garment overnight in cold water and salt (five tablespoons of salt per liter of water) and then rinse it well. Once the stain is gone, the garment can be put in the washing machine.

If the stains are particularly stubborn, try also with:

  • baking soda or baking powder, to put on the stain, leave it to act overnight and then rinse well
  • lemon juice, to leave on for half an hour and then rinse and wash as usual
  • potatoes or cornstarch
  • alcohol, particularly suitable for delicate fabrics, such as silk: dab a little pure alcohol on the blood stain, leave to act and then rinse by hand with cold water

Blood stains on the carpet, mattress or sofa

Suitable for things that definitely don't go in the washing machine (carpet, carpet, sofa or mattress) are:

  • potato flour
  • cornstarch

You can make a potato or cornstarch paste with a little cold water, which you will then scrub the stain with an old toothbrush. After half an hour, you can wipe the fabric with a damp cloth. This method is also useful for blood stains on wool.

In case of particularly stubborn stains, a paste based on salt and lemon juice will help, which you can carefully rub on the fabric with an old toothbrush.

Whichever home remedy you choose, always remember to tread carefully with sensitive fabrics and never rub heavily. You risk making fabrics fade and finding yourself a garment that is no longer new.
