India, Badlapur: volunteers and animal welfare organizations manage to remove the bucket that trapped the face of a leopard

A happy ending story for a Indian leopard, whose head was trapped in a tight plastic container for two days in which the animal had probably searched for food. The bucket was finally removed thanks to the prompt action of the Indian State Forestry Corps, the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, animal welfare associations such as Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare and many volunteers who, seeing the animal in those conditions in the past few days, have wanted to help out.

Last Tuesday, in the streets of the Indian city of Badlapur, some passers-by had noticed a leopard who had remained imprisoned in a bucket, unable to free himself from that object that prevented him from feeding, defending himself and which, if no one had intervened, could have suffocate the animal in the long run.

The leopard was then found shortly thereafter on the roadside of the district by some men in the car who, worried about his health, decided to shoot a video of the animal and call for help immediately who arrived immediately on the spot. But blocking the feline wasn't easy.

The leopard's movements were thus monitored by forest agents and by many local citizens who have it followed in the woods of the city for two days and two nights while they continued to warn the inhabitants not to approach the leopard and not to scare it further. The recovery mission lasted more than 48 hours, involving a total of over 30 people.

After the vets sedated the leopard and removed the plastic bucket from its head, they transported it to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park recovery center, where it will be kept under observation over the next few days and then released and reintroduced into the wild, hoping that it will not. he again encounters similar objects thrown into the environment by man.

La large presence of plastic waste dispersed in the environment it is an often underestimated problem when thinking about forest areas. These represent a very dangerous threat to marine and terrestrial fauna because very frequently the animals come across cans, containers, plastic threads which they can no longer get rid of, perishing. Fortunately, this is not one of the cases.
