The effectiveness of this type of diet has been at the center of debate for decades. Many studies with often conflicting results. The new research wanted to summarize the large body of surveys, no less than 53, to establish whether low-fat diets really contribute to greater weight loss than diets in bass content di carbohydrates or again to the diet Mediterranean.
According to the analysis, which involved 68.128 participants, cutting fat would not perform better than other diets. Overall, weight loss studies found that low-carb diets led to more weight loss than low-fat diets.
The latter however they did not show great differences in weight change compared to other diets with a higher fat content. Indeed, only one case among those examined showed a greater decrease in weight compared to a usual diet.
Although it seems impossible, according to the scientists diets low-fat they have a similar effect to those with high fat content with respect to weight loss. This does not mean, however, that reducing fat never leads to weight loss, but that low-fat diets only led to greater weight loss when compared to a regular diet.
"There is no good evidence to recommend low-fat diets," he said the lead author of the research, Dr. Deirdre Tobias of Harvard Medical School in Boston.
Of course, reducing animal fats is certainly helpful for our body. The rule is always in moderation and in preferring "good" fats such as extra virgin olive oil and some seeds.
