Recoil: how to recover used vegetable oil and transform it into energy

How to transform waste oils into fuel? The project, co-financed by the EU, is called Recoil

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

Dispose of used frying oil, we will never tire of repeating it, is of fundamental importance for the environment. But there is more. In fact, these substances can return to new life and be reused for the combined production of electricity and heat.

To announce it from Rimini, where it took place ecomondo, They were AzzeroCO2, CONOE (National Compulsory Consortium for the collection and treatment of used vegetable and animal oils and fats), Legambiente, Kyoto Club and CID Software who presented the project RECOIL (RECovered waste cooking OIL for combined heat and power production - Recovered waste vegetable oil for the combined production of electrical and thermal energy). Co-funded by the European Commission under the LIFE + program, the project will take place until June 2015 and will have the objective of creating a system for door to door collection used vegetable oil.

At the moment there will be two pilot municipalities where the door-to-door collection will be planned: Castell'Azzara (Gr) e forlimpopoli (Fc), where an innovative information system for monitoring and traceability of the entire collection chain will also be organized, which will make it possible to constantly monitor its progress and evaluate its results in real time. The collected waste oil, after an exclusively mechanical treatment, will be used as fuel to produce electrical and thermal energy.

But the real highlight of the initiative is the reuse of used oil collected as fuel following an exclusively mechanical treatment.

"Recoil it is an innovative project - he declared serena drigo of AzzeroCO2 from Ecomondo - since it aims to plan technologically advanced solutions to address the problem of the dispersion of used vegetable oils into the environment and reuse for energy purposes. This is an objective that becomes concrete thanks to the specific skills of the project partners ".

“With Recoil a double advantage is achieved - he underlined Stefano Ciafani scientific manager and project manager for Legambiente - since the spills of used oils in the sewerage which cause problems with purification are reduced and a useful resource for the production of renewable energy is collected. The information and awareness raising activity is fundamental for directly involving citizens in the sustainable management of waste and, specifically, in the door-to-door home collection of used vegetable oils".

And if you have any doubts about how to dispose of used oil, we come to your aid. We asked directly to Conoe, who explained us where to throw the frying oil without frying the environment.
