The job announcement of a Neapolitan company, looking for a receptionist, who asked to send a costumed photo to the women candidates for the position, sparked a media storm. A shameful and unacceptable request.
“We are looking for a receptionist who speaks English fluently, demonstrable with specific certificates or references. The candidate must have a maximum age of 30, be self-driving, have a sunny disposition and good looks ”: this is what a job advertisement published by a company in Naples, Medial Service, on the Recruit.net platform says. So far it seems like a job offer like any other (even if there is a separate chapter to open about "good looks"), but the next sentence makes your eyes roll. "You will be asked to send a full-length photo in a bathing suit or similar" the announcement continues.
But what does a swimsuit do with a receptionist job? Absolutely nothing. Perhaps the employer has mistaken this position for modeling. And what exactly does "similar to a costume" mean? The first thing that comes to mind and that comes close to this summer garment is the underwear. Basically to be hired as a receptionist you have to pose in underwear and bra. An absurdity.
As you can imagine, the indecent request (because it cannot be defined in any other way) sparked controversy on social media, which were flooded with screens of the announcement, which the Naples-based company took care to remove shortly after.

But there is another element that we cannot help but leave out: the salary, to say the least, miserable. Well yes, after sending a half-naked photo of yourself and passing the selection (at this point we think about the size of your bra) the pay is just 500 euros per month for a total of 24 working hours a week. Full time. A real fortune ...
Following the storm that exploded on social media, the Neapolitan company - which deals with private security and hospitality - tried to defend itself by saying that it was a mistake made by an inexperienced employee who did not know the company policies relating to the equality of sexes. An answer that many (including us) find it a little hard to believe.
The intervention of the Ministry of Labor
Thanks to the media coverage obtained, the story was not ignored by the Ministry of Labor, which decided to clarify sending inspectors to the company.
The sending of an inspection by Minister Orlando in the Neapolitan surveillance and reception company that offered a fee of 5 euros per hour with unjustifiable requirements, is a strong signal in the fight against new forms of labor exploitation and a response to the requests made by the CGIL in the ministerial seat, just a few days ago - commented the general secretary of the CGIL Naples and Campania, Nicola Ricci - This episode is emblematic of the conditions that are often offered, especially to young people and women: precarious work and underpaid. We hope that after the inspection, the company will proceed to stable recruitment without requests for requirements that harm the dignity of workers.

Stop discrimination and indecent requests! Women are on the verge of endurance
The shameful announcement published by the Neapolitan company, unfortunately, is not an isolated case. It is just the latest case of sexism and discrimination that women are forced to endure every day. And many requests do not even come to light, because they are made verbally.
We women are not just indignant and angry about all this. We are tired. Indeed exhausted. Exhausted of being painted like dolls, of receiving lower salaries than our male colleagues, of having to show our physique instead of demonstrating our skills and above all of pretending that this whole absurd situation is "normal". In 2022 we cannot and do not want to accept it.
