According to the safety notice, the withdrawn cheese is the 1,5 kg wheel with expiry date 26/09/2020 and lot number 080520. It is contaminated by Escherichia coli STEC (producer of Shiga toxin) detected in 25 grams of product.

The health risks

The experimental zooprophylactic institute of Lazio and Tuscany illustrated them:

“Some strains of E. coli, defined as“ Shiga-Toxin producers ”or“ verocytotoxic ”(STEC or VTEC), are zoonotic agents capable of producing toxins dangerous for human health, inducing a severe form of hemorrhagic diarrhea. Furthermore, a possible complication (5-10% of cases) following a STEC infection, frequent especially in children, is the haemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS), a disease characterized by severe acute renal failure (often necessary resort to dialysis), as well as from anemia and thrombocytopenia (reduced number of platelets) and which in some cases (about 20%) proves fatal ".

If you bought it, avoid consuming it and bring it back to the point of sale for an exchange or refund.
