Soon the procedures for the recall of non-compliant food products safety requirements will become more uniform. The news comes from Ministry of Health with the aim of protecting consumers.
The idea is of introduce a uniform document on the procedures for reporting and taking back food products that do not fall within the rules for the food safety. The reference is to food that is harmful, contaminated or otherwise unsuitable for human consumption for various reasons.
In 2002 the early warning system for the notification of a direct or indirect risk to the health of consumers. Now, however, the Ministry of Health would like to introduce a single document on recall procedures that can be used by all operators in the food sector (FBO) and by those responsible for the safety of products placed on the market.
When a dangerous food product is reported but has already reached the consumer, it will be theOSA having to start the recall procedure. It will therefore have to notify the competent authorities, i.e. the ASLs.
La reporting the problem to consumers It will be immediate and take place both through the media and in supermarkets where the withdrawn product was for sale. The OSA document has been under discussion since 2008, but we expect progress to be made soon thanks to consumer intervention.
In this way we hope that the communications on the withdrawal of products aimed at consumers become clearer, above all thanks to the indication, among other things, of the product brand, name of the store, reason for recall, production lot, name of the manufacturer and location of the plant, expiry date, weight and volume of the sales unit, reason for the recall and instructions from the consumer.
In particular, the consumer will have to know how to behave if you have purchased a product that was later picked up with precise instructions on returning to the store to obtain a replacement or refund.
Also always in the interest of consumers a specific portal should be born in 2016 that contains all the notices of recall with the information required by the new document, as they require Altroconsumo and other associations deployed in defense of citizens. Of course, reports will need to appear online as quickly as possible.
Finally, the hope is that the citizens' request to have a vade mecum which allows properly report an imperfect or adulterated food product to the authorities.
