Rare specimen of albino fawn saved on the road by a truck driver

The small albino deer with a pink nose and large pink ears was reportedly found sitting in the middle of a street near Sacramento, California.

Long ears and a very sweet face: a rare specimen of albino fawn has been sighted in the United States. The credit goes to a truck driver who allegedly found him and rescued him from the road in Northern California, then taking him to a rescue center.

According to a local newspaper, the small albino deer with the pink nose and the big pink ears would have been found sitting in the middle of a roadway in Woodland, near Sacramento. It is a 3-week-old fawn and the truck driver who found it believed at first that he was a little lamb.

The doe's mother has not been found, but - as Diane Nicholas of Kindred Spirits Fawn Rescue explains - it seems that deer have a habit of searching for food often leaving the fawns alone.

Nicholas also reports that this is the first time he has cared for an albino deer in his 13 years of being in the rescue and rehabilitation center, where volunteers treat 50 to 80 fawns a year.

"It must have a special little enclosure because we're worried about the sun right now," comments Nicholas to the Sacramento Bee. We don't know enough about how much their health can suffer ".

Albinos are generally rare in nature. According to National Geographic, albinism occurs when a single animal's cells are unable to produce melanin, a dark pigment that results in normal coloring in the skin, scales, eyes, or hair.

It is the lack of melanin that makes an animal look white. It is worth noting that being white does not mean that an animal is an albino. Bengal tigers, for example, are simply tigers that are born with white fur. Their whiteness is not the result of a genetic mutation. The general rule for knowing if an animal is an albino is if it has pink or blue eyes.

And it is clear that this cute American fawn is. So good luck little white deer!
