Ikea is preparing to launch a new line of pressed paper furniture which should arrive in stores in 2017. The company has already created the first plant for the production of new furniture, based in Sweden.
Ikea claims that the prices of the new pressed paper furniture will be really affordable, so much so that some pieces will only cost a few euros. At the moment the Ikea designers are perfecting the design of the new pressed paper furniture and producing the first prototypes.
The pressed paper will also be used for i furniture with upholstery. Of course, the padding cannot be made of paper, but the structures and supports of the furniture themselves will be. The main challenge at the moment relates to logistics, transport and the procurement of materials. Everything will have to happen economically to keep prices low for consumers.
Before seeing the new Ikea furniture in pressed paper we will have to wait a couple of more years, but it seems that the company intends to revolutionize part of its production in this sense. The hope is that this pressed paper furniture is based on the recycling of existing materials and are in any case quite durable and resistant.

Some prototypes of the new furniture were put on display at the last one Democratic Design Day in which the company participated and which took place in Sweden in mid-May (see photo). Do you like the idea of pressed paper furniture? Will they be tough enough?
