I plastic waste represent a huge problem for the environment, as plastic is a tough material that takes several hundred years to decompose.

Over 80% of the waste that ends up in our seas is made up of plastic and threatens wildlife, vegetation and our health.

Recycling as much plastic as possible is therefore essential to contain the problem and, thanks to the characteristics of this material, plastic bottles and containers can become a precious resource.

Plastic waste can in fact be recovered and used to create new objects and, from today, it is also possible to do it at home.

In fact, Dutch designer Dave Hakkens designed an innovative machine in 2013 that allows you to recycle plastic directly at home.

The Precious Plastic project, born as part of the boy's graduation thesis, has grown over the years and has given life to a community of hundreds of people open to all, engaged all over the world in reducing plastic waste.

Over time, the machinery it has been revised and improved several times, up to a definitive performing version e easy to use.

The machine basically consists of four modular parts. The destroying machine shreds bottles and containers in small fragments which can then be resold or used in subsequent processes.
Through the extruder, the object-making machine and the compression machine it is in fact possible to obtain plastic filaments and objects of different shapes and sizes from the fragments, transforming them into vases, plates, wall clocks and much more.

Furthermore, the car is completely free: Dave has decided not to patent and not to sell the machine but instead to publish the plans to make it.

In this way, with a little patience and dexterity, anyone can follow the instructions and build a machine that recycles plastic, and then have fun creating objects of common use, of furniture and design thanks to its own plastic waste.

The community offers support to build the machine, ideas to reduce the consumption of plastic, ideas to create new objects from plastic waste and eventually to resell them on the market. On the project website, accessible to all without registration, there is also a Bazaar section, where users sell theirs creations in recycled plastic.
